Ioannis Karakirisidis
Ioannis Karakirisidis is a PhD candidate (Ancient Greek Philology) at the University of Crete under the supervision of prof. Athena Kavoulaki (University of Crete) and the guidance of prof. Lucia Athanassaki (University of Crete) and prof. Ioannis Petropoulos (Democritean University of Thrace). He holds a BA (2016) and a MA (2020) in Classical Philology from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He was born and raised in Piraeus, Greece. His Ph.D. project is entitled “Odes and Prayers to Aphrodite and Eros in the lyric and tragic corpus,” in which he examines the poetic and religious discourses addressed to the deities of love. His research interests focus on the ancient Greek poetry of the Archaic and Classical times, myth, ritual, and religion. He has been awarded scholarships from the State Scholarship Foundation and Eurobank, published samples of his work, took part in conferences and seminars and has experience of classical languages teaching in both secondary and higher education.
